What's Her Story: Queen of the Sea

I have always wanted to visit the Door of No Return in Ghana, at the Elmina Castle. It is on my bucket list. It is the place where many Africans were shipped to the Americas and never returned.
Our history is tragic. But coming to terms with it is healing. I want to stand at that place that my ancestors may have stood, and feel the energy in my feet. Even if I experience grief, it's an emotion that I welcome. I am learning to process things by getting through to the other side of it.
I wanted to create a piece that honored those who experienced the Atlantic slave trade. Those who survived the ships and started a new life in captivity, and those who died on the way there. Their bravery and strength should go without being said, but with this piece, I honor them.
